JSW Infra to boost container capacity at New Mangalore Port

JSW Infrastructure has announced its plans to significantly increase container capacity at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) in Karnataka.

JSW Infrastructure has signed a concession agreement with New Mangalore Port Trust to develop and operate its first container terminal project for 30 years.

Capacity expansion plans at Indian ports is giving a renewed hope for port equipment players. Many port operators are acquiring new equipment as part of modernisation and expansion of handling capacities at these ports.

Our aim is to develop a handling capacity of 180 MMTPA by 2020

We intend to invest in berths and equipment at both these locations, to increase our capacity to around 60 MMTPA. These investments would be not only in equipment for bulk handling

Ports of Call

The statistics are impressive. Indian ports are expected to handle one billion tonne of cargo in 2011-12, two billion tonne by 2016-17 and 2.4 billion tonne by 2019-20.
